Your transfer case is designed to allow your transmission's powerflow to go to the front wheels along with the rear ones. Some vehicles have a button or lever to allow the driver to select 4 wheel drive and some have no buttons at all and are referred to as all wheel drive vehicles.

How do you know if you have four 4 wheel drive system problems?

- Transfer case is leaking fluid

- 4 wheel drive won't engage at all

- 4 wheel drive won't disengage

- Noise when in 4 wheel drive

- Vibration when in or out of 4 wheel drive

- Front wheels feel like they are binding when cornering

- Hearing popping noises while driving straight

Your transfer case and 4 wheel drive system must, must, must have ALL four tires of same make, and same diameter! A difference of only 1/4" circumference can cause premature wear of the transfer case, premature wear of the front differential, and if your transfer case is equipped with a viscous coupler it can cause total meltdown! Even if your tire pressures are not all equal, it can cause a similar problem. We have had trucks that were making popping noises while driving that only needed the tire pressures adjusted!
